About MovieDisco

MovieDisco is a free group movie recommendation tool built on top of Letterboxd. It solves a problem every film lover knows: you and your friends all have different taste, and picking a movie everyone will enjoy feels impossible.

Enter your Letterboxd usernames, and MovieDisco analyzes each person's ratings, watch history, and liked films to build a taste profile. Then our algorithm finds movies that score highly across all profiles simultaneously — not just films one person loves, but films the whole group is likely to enjoy.

How it works

  1. 1. Create a session — Enter your Letterboxd username to start.
  2. 2. Invite your group — Share the session code with friends so they can add their profiles.
  3. 3. Get recommendations — Our algorithm compares everyone's taste and suggests films optimized for the whole group.

I built MovieDisco because my friends and I kept spending more time arguing about what to watch than actually watching movies. Existing recommendation tools are designed for individuals — I wanted something that takes the whole group into account.

MovieDisco started as a weekend project and grew into a full web app and iOS app used by thousands of film lovers around the world.

Privacy-first approach

MovieDisco only reads publicly available data from your Letterboxd profile. We don't require you to create an account, we don't store your data permanently, and we never sell information to third parties. Read our full privacy policy for details.
